These puzzles all require algebra to find the solution. In some cases, they might also be solved using trial and error, but students should come to realise that an algebraic solution is the most efficient approach. Since all the puzzles start with a problem written in words, they are also useful for helping students to practise turning ‘real-world’ information into algebraic expressions and equations.
