Multiple-choice testsEach section of Complete RE features a short multiple-choice test file which you can use with your students. You will need to decide when your students have completed sufficient work to be able to undertake the tests effectively so that they are a good use of students’ time. The tests are scored on the basis of 1 mark for each correct answer; the answer is either correct or not. You may wish to ask the students to keep their test results onscreen so that you can record them. This is a very quick way of gathering a class list of learning outcomes. It does, however, only test the students’ factual recall; your assessment of more qualitative data will be just as important. There are also multiple-choice, paper-based sets of questions in each of the virtual visits, in the teachers’ section, if you wish to test students’ knowledge further. You may wish to give this test to the students as they come to the end of each religion. Alternatively, you may want to set all six tests as an end of Key Stage 3 examination in RE. Undertaking this exercise would give you a large amount of raw data to offer the Key Stage 3 manager at the point at which they are beginning to make end of key stage comments. Testing knowledge in this way has become unfashionable but for teachers keen to see their students move on to GCSE, this might be a very effective way of helping them develop the discipline required to master the art of examination technique. |
