Context: Basic elements

In Year 8, the basic elements of art are explored to develop more sophisticated art. This builds on the learning in Year 7. Line, tone, colour, shape, texture, volume and mass are ideas that are developed through art making. Work can be delivered that may focus on one particular element, eg line, or on combinations of these ideas.

The basic elements are considered to be the components that are used to create imagery of many kinds. Processes can include painting and drawing, collage, digital media, printmaking, ceramics and other construction techniques.

Artists and art contexts are integrated into these themes by using appropriate examples of artists’ work as part of the stimulus material to accompany the practical making.
