Series: Phonic Cues
Phonic Cues Set 3
Jenny Murray
Children need to be able to read without difficulty, in a fluent and clear manner. Synthetic phonics has become widely accepted as a key way to achieve this, and the National Curriculum requires that children learn ‘phonemic awareness and phonic knowledge’, and to use this in both reading and spelling to ‘recognise words with common spelling patterns’. They should be given opportunities to ‘link sound and letter patterns, exploring rhyme, alliteration and other sound patterns’.
Building on the other two packs in the Phonic Cues series, this pack is for beginning readers who need to learn to recognise and use the consonant digraphs ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘th’ and ‘wh’. The work on rhyming ‘word families’ is also continued, and there is material on open long vowels as in ‘me’ and ‘go’.
All the materials are suitable for use by both young children and older pupils who find reading difficult.
