Recipes: Level 3

Level 3 (for advanced students) looks at further developments in the arrangement of music. Most of the recipes use the seven-point plan from composing in a harmonic style. To remind pupils of this, you may wish to display or distribute the following poster:

At this level, the music generally requires the use of traditional notation and a greater awareness of all the parts at one time. A greater degree of skill needs to be exercised in the arrangement of the music. Full guidance is provided for this. Some recipes are easier to follow, and the music is more successful, if pupils are using computers to compose. It is assumed that pupils use manuscript paper for these recipes, although grids are provided if required.
