Recipes: Level 2

Some new techniques and features in the arrangement of the music are introduced in this section, including:

• the parallel pentatonic scale
• the chromatic scale
• triads based on modes on D or on A
• the blues scale
• new ways of working out chords (quartal and quintal harmony)
• the use of six beats in a bar, using compound time

Further details about arranging are mentioned in some recipes. At this level, pupils are expected to experiment more.
