Clear support for the basics
The spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) test at the end of Key Stage 2 continues to preoccupy teachers, pupils and parents. Each pupil needs personalised support to see how the building blocks of language fit together, and even able readers and writers can struggle when asked to dig into the mechanics of how words work.
SPaG – Rules Reinforcement can help. It provides almost 100 clear, ready-to-use worksheets on the full range of topics in spelling, punctuation and grammar. These can be used to:
- teach particular points
- provide extra practice
- reinforce what pupils have learnt elsewhere
- clear up confusion
- fill in the gaps in understanding.
The activities are organised according to ability, covering the full range of the 2014 English programme of study, so that even the most able pupils can be stretched while others get the grounding they need in the basics. Each one has a clear explanation of the point or rule in question, followed by an exercise to cement understanding and a more open-ended challenge.
Lay the groundwork
Although the SPaG test itself is taken at the end of Year 6, SPaG – Rules Reinforcement is designed to be used right the way through primary school. By using the materials little and often, you can help pupils learn the key points alongside their other literacy work, so that they will be fully confident by the time they take the test.
From 2016, there will also be a SPaG test at the end of Key Stage 1. SPaG – Rules Reinforcement is a great way to start preparing pupils for this test as well.
Flexible and convenient
All the material comes with a licence to copy within the purchasing school for a single one-off payment. This means that the activities can be used in all classes, providing familiarity and consistency of approach.
An ideal companion
SPaG – Rules Reinforcement makes the ideal companion to the practice/diagnostic tests supplied in Pearson Publishing’s SPaG – Graded Preparation. Where the tests identify areas where extra work is needed, these materials can provide that reinforcement.
