SPaG - Graded Preparation
Ali Dakin
A practical solution to raising attainment
To give pupils the best chance of success in the Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) tests, it is important to start laying the groundwork early. Teachers need to be able to assess pupils and identify areas of weakness that need more attention, either as part of regular teaching or through targeted grammar lessons. SPaG – Graded Preparation has been devised to achieve just this.
Little and often
Whereas most of the SPaG tests now available are practice papers aimed at Year 6 only, SPaG – Graded Preparation helps to assess ability levels right through from Year 1 to Year 6. It includes 30 tests designed to be used termly or half-termly. Each test has separate sections for grammar, punctuation and spelling, based on the content in the programme of study for KS1 and KS2. Spelling lists for pupils below the level of Year 1 are also included.
The tests are designed to increase in complexity gradually, in order to ensure progression, and full answers are included.
Assessment made easy
Also included is an assessment sheet for each child, giving clear expectations for each stage. Using these, teachers can track progress individually, while an overview sheet makes it easy to identify areas of weakness across a class group and adapt planning accordingly.
All of the materials are provided in convenient digital formats, allowing easy printing and distribution.
Great value for money
The full set of resources, including an unlimited licence to copy within the purchasing school, costs just £95.
