‘Kosher’ means ‘fit or proper’. It is most commonly used to refer to the dietary laws that Jews choose to abide by. Kosher food is food that has been prepared properly, according to the food laws found in Leviticus 11. These laws include only eating meat that has been drained of all blood, and having separate utensils for meat products and dairy products.

Some food is treyfah. ‘Treyfah’ means ‘forbidden’ and refers to food such as pork or shellfish.
