The ancient land of Israel was named after Abraham’s grandson, Jacob. According to Genesis, Jacob wrestled another man, who is believed to represent Jacob’s own inner struggle with both other humans and G-d. When the other man was unable to overcome Jacob, he blessed him and named him Israel (Genesis 32:24-32).
Israel is also an important place of Jewish pilgrimage. Two of the most important places of Jewish pilgrimage are the Western Wall and Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
