Christian weddings are ceremonies within which couples are bound together in marriage before God. A marriage is often considered a gift from God and a symbol of Christ’s relationship with the Church.
There are five main aspects that take place at a Christian wedding ceremony:
- The minister establishes that there are no objections to the marriage and that each partner is free to marry.
- The exchange of wedding vows:
I, John, do take thee, Elizabeth To be my lawful wedded wife To have and to hold From this day forward For better, for worse, For richer, for poorer, In sickness and in health To love and to cherish, Till death do us part.
- The exchange of rings as a sign of fidelity.
- The blessing of the marriage in God’s name.
- The signing of the marriage register.
