Becoming part of the Buddhist community is a simple process where a person publicly states that they accept the Buddha’s teachings and will try to follow them. This ceremony is known as ‘going for refuge’.
Buddhists try their best to support one another; however, this is not to the exclusion of non-Buddhists. The Buddha taught that Buddhists have a responsibility to all people, regardless of factors such as religion, age, sex, race or creed.
Although there are many different types of Buddhism, all Buddhists try to follow the Noble Eightfold Path and to live by the five precepts.
