Wesak

back02forward

One of the most important days in the Buddhist calendar is Wesak. This festival takes place around May or June on the Western Gregorian calendar. Theravada Buddhists believe not only that the Buddha was born on this day of the year, but that he also achieved enlightenment and passed away on this day.

This occasion is celebrated in many different ways. However, most Buddhists gather together at a monastery, nunnery or temple, where the monks or nuns talk about the important events in the Buddha’s life and his teachings.

Many Buddhists also give presents on Wesak.
