Assessment in drama
There has been much discussion about assessment in drama. As drama is not a discrete subject in the National Curriculum, there is no single national policy. However, the Arts Council England’s Drama In Schools (Second Edition) (2003) offers a useful assessment framework.
Having said this, it is important to note that, as you are not restricted to a national policy, you can adapt any guidance for your own needs and the needs of the students in your school. The assessment criteria you choose should align with your curriculum. The criteria must be clearly defined to make them accessible for other teachers in your department, the school management, and, most importantly, the students in your school.
Drama In Schools (Second Edition) included the following documents in its development. The material in Complete Drama KS3 is mapped to Drama In Schools (Second Edition) and the Drama objectives bank (DfES 0321/2003), and therefore covers most guidance in the following:
DfES/QCA: National Curriculum for English (drama strand) |
QCA: Giving a Voice: Drama and speaking and listening resources for key stage 3 |
