Purposes of the gurdwara

back02forward

The gurdwara has many different purposes. It is first and foremost a place for Sikhs to study the Guru Granth Sahib and to praise God.

The gurdwara can also serve as a community centre. This allows Sikhs from the local community to form closer bonds and to work together on projects such as helping the homeless with accommodation or providing transport for the elderly.

Often, it acts as an educational centre, providing a place for Sikhs to learn more about their language, history, faith and traditions.

The gurdwara can also be considered a refuge. Any traveller can come to the gurdwara and receive a meal and temporary accommodation.
