The Torah contains the following five books:

			- Genesis – This book contains an account of creation, and tells the story of the generations from Adam to Jacob. Genesis also describes the covenant (agreement) made between G-d and Abraham.

			- Exodus – This gives the account of the Jews’ exit from Egypt. This account is very important to Jews, both historically and culturally, and is remembered annually at a festival called Passover. Exodus tells of how the Egyptians enslaved the Jews for over 400 years. The prophet Moses was told by G-d to set the Jews free and lead them back to the promised land of Canaan.

			- Leviticus – This book provides rabbis with many of their rules and guidelines.

			- Numbers – This gives an account of the time the Jews, led by Moses, spent wandering from Mount Sinai to Canaan.

			- Deuteronomy – This provides Jews with guidelines on how G-d wishes them to live. It also re-emphasises the place and significance of the Ten Commandments.
