Rosh Hashanah

back02forward

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, which takes place during the seventh month of the Jewish calendar. Rosh Hashanah also marks the Day of Creation, the Day of Judgement, and the birthdays of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. A ram’s horn, called a shofar, is blown to herald in the new year.

On Rosh Hashanah, Jews remember the year that has passed and look forward to the coming year. Special bread baked in the shape of a crown or a ladder is eaten to represent G-d’s sovereignty and His kingdom.
