Rabbis

return

The word ‘rabbi’ means ‘teacher’. Rabbis are highly respected within the Jewish community, and act as teachers, leaders and authority figures. They also conduct religious ceremonies, for example, leading prayers, presiding over weddings, bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs, and giving advice to people in need.

If a rabbi is not a mohel, they may help to find one for the family of a newborn baby boy. A mohel is a Jew who performs the brit milah (circumcision) ceremony.

Unlike Orthodox Judaism, Reform Judaism also allows women to become rabbis.
