The Qur’an

return

The Qur’an is the Muslims’ holy book. Muslims believe it is the exact word of Allah as dictated to the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) via the angel Jibril. The word ‘Qur’an’ means ‘recitation’ (to repeat), which comes from Jibril’s first command to Muhammad (pbuh) “Repeat these words in the name of your Lord who created you…”.

The words of the Qur’an are in flowing, rhyming Arabic. The Qur’an contains 114 suras (chapters), with 6228 ayats (verses). They are ordered from the largest chapters at the front to the smallest at the back. Muslims believe the Qur’an is the most important book in existence. It provides not only answers to life’s great mysteries, but also practical guidance for Muslims on how to live their lives.
