Atman

‘Atman’ means ‘the God within the creature’ or ‘the real self’. The concept of atman is comparable to the Christian idea of a soul, except that Hindus believe that each individual atman is an extension of the one ultimate atman of Brahman. They also believe that everything – whether it is an animal, tree or stone – possesses an atman.
