The Vedas consist of four ancient texts:
- Rig Veda – This is the oldest of the four Vedas. It consists of 1028 hymns praising God.
- Yajur Veda – This is used as a handbook by priests performing ritual puja. It is also concerned with karma.
- Sama Veda – This consists of chants and tunes for singing at the rituals. It was also the originator of classical Indian music.
- Atharva Veda – This preserves many ancient traditions, and guides Hindus in their daily living.
