Candles

Before electricity, candles were needed to light up a church. Now, however, candles are still useful for other purposes. One of the names Christians often use for Jesus is ‘The Light of the World’. So when a Christian sees the many bright candles inside the church, they are reminded of Jesus.

Candles are also lit in remembrance of someone who has died, after saying a prayer, and on special occasions such as Advent and Easter.
