Protestantism is a Christian movement that ‘protested’ against, and broke away from, the Roman Catholic Church. Protestant churches are now the most common in England. The Protestant movement, also known as the Reformation, questioned the traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.
One of the most influential Protestants was Martin Luther, who famously nailed his 95 objections to the Roman Catholic Church upon the doors of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, in 1517 AD. One of the major changes that came about from this movement was the acceptance of the authority of the Bible over the authority of the Church.
