The Noble Eightfold Path is a set of guidelines that Buddhists should try to follow in order to live a good life, overcome craving and gain enlightenment:

  1. Right understanding – Have the best possible understanding of life.
  2. Right thought – Use your mind in the best possible way you can. For example, do not prejudge others.
  3. Right speech – Communicate with people correctly. For example, do not swear, lie or talk about others unkindly.
  4. Right action – Act in the best way possible. For example, be polite and do not commit crimes.
  5. Right living – Work the best you can at a job which is useful for the community.
  6. Right effort – Try your hardest to achieve a good and peaceful life.
  7. Right awareness – Have the best control of your mind in order to do what is right.
  8. Right concentration – Focus your mind through meditation so you can have the best concentration possible to achieve your goals.
