Welcome to Eid-ul-Fitr
So as not to forget that this is a special day for all Muslims, many families will go to visit the graves of their deceased relatives. They believe that, living or dead, a person remains part of the family and should be included in all the great occasions. For some, it is something that can be done easily while going from place to place visiting living relatives. This task is usually carried out by the heads of the households. They leave the other members of the family at home to welcome their own visitors.
At every house, there are food and cakes in abundance. According to Michael Keene, one of the traditional dishes is a special pudding of dates and milk. Perhaps the reason for this can be found in this Sura:
"Then a basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet and he said (to that man), 'Feed [poor people] with this by way of atonement.' He said, '[Should I feed it] to poorer people than we? There is no poorer house than ours between its [Medina's] mountains.' The Prophet said, 'Then feed your family with it.' "(Sahih Bukhari Hadith 3.158)
