After the prayers, families and friends leave the mosque and return together to their homes. Those children who have been given new clothes will wear them; indeed, many adults will treat themselves to a new outfit as it is such a special occasion.

During the party, presents are given out and people relax and begin to enjoy themselves. "In Pakistan, swings are often tied to trees for the children to enjoy themselves, while adults who have not met for a long time exchange news." (Cole with Morgan 1995 edition)

One of the more common traditions of Eid-ul-Fitr is the giving of cards. It is a way of marking the occasion and creating a memory. It is seen as especially important to send such cards to family or friends who live far away and cannot share the fun. It is a way of letting them know they are remembered. Below is an example of a computer-generated 'Eid-ul-Fitr' card.
