Welcome to Eid-ul-Fitr

How is Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated?

When Muslims wake up on the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr, they will perform their normal morning prayer rituals which are supposed to begin one hour after dawn. The morning prayers of Eid-ul-Fitr have an even greater significance because of the holiness of the time.

They will have their breakfast and then go as a family to the mosque. The breakfast can be quite an elaborate meal for it does exactly what it says - it 'breaks the fast'. It is a powerful symbol that Ramadan is over.

It is quite common for Muslims to gather in one mosque, even if there are several in the locality or a small geographical area. This shows their unity and solidarity across the world and is a source of strength.

In the mosque, special prayers will be said and relevant sections from the Qur'an read out. Allah is praised for his mercy and goodness and people pray for family members who have died.
